About Feed and Speed

Built by someone who runs a lathe for a living, not just someone who read about it.

Hi, I'm Courtney

I run a lathe in aerospace manufacturing, where the tolerances don't leave much room for guessing. I also run Hook and Gauge (crochet/knitting calculators), Filament and Layer (3D printing calculators), Flour and Scale (baking calculators), and Hem and Thimble (sewing calculators) — this site is the same idea pointed at my day job: real shop math turned into a tool instead of a handbook you have to dig through mid-setup.

Why this site exists

Most of this math isn't hard, it's just tedious to look up mid-job — the tap drill size for a thread you don't cut often, a hardness conversion for a print callout in a scale you don't normally think in, the RPM for a material you haven't machined in a while. None of it needs a textbook open on the bench; it needs a fast answer so you can get back to the part.

How this site works

Every calculator on Feed and Speed runs entirely in your browser — nothing you type into a field is ever sent anywhere, logged, or seen by me. There's no sign-up because there's nothing to sign up for. More on that in the Privacy Policy.

Got a tool idea?

If there's a piece of shop math you keep having to look up or dig out of an old handbook, I'd like to hear about it — that's exactly how every tool on this site gets made. Reach me at [email protected].
